Good Morning America host Lara Spencer is apologizing for her insensitive remarks about Prince George and his love of ballet.

On Thursday, Prince George heading back to school was a topic discussed on the morning talk show. Spencer shared the 6-year-old royal had a slightly different curriculum than most children his age.

Along with the standard reading and math, computer programing, poetry, and ballet are part of his schedule. The latter sparked a burst of laughter from the blonde host.

“Prince William said, ‘George absolutely loves ballet.’ I have news for you, William. We’ll see how long that lasts,” remarked the mother of two in a joking tone of voice.

The fact she thought it was funny to laugh at Prince George’s love of ballet did not sit well with viewers. Backlash comparing her actions to bullying began flooding social media with users blasting Spencer.

World of Dance judge Derek Hough used Instagram to share his disappointment in Spencer. He admitted her words and reaction brought up unpleasant memories for him. Hough went on to blast the stereotype of dance and encourage adults to encourage any child that loves dance.

So You Think You Can Dance artistic director Travis Wall posted an Instagram video slamming the GMA host for laughing at the Prince George’s love of ballet. Dancing With The Stars pro, Cheryl Burke also wrote a lengthy Instagram message

“I would encourage @lara.spencer and others who share that mentality to be mindful of how your words and laughter can affect young boys who want to pursue the art of dance. Prince George’s a shame that this discussion wasn’t used as an opportunity to encourage him, and rather to poke fun at him on national television,” said part of Burke’s Instagram post.
